Montenegro generates EUR 740,000 from rafting in 5 months
12.10.2009
The overall income from rafting in Montenegro for the first five months of this year amounted to EUR 740,000, according to latest data from Montenegro’s Department of Public Revenues.
Rafting is without doubt a solid source of income for people who organise it and can be considered as so-called elite tourism, chief tax inspector Novo Radovic told the Radio Television Montenegro.
According to the department, a total of 25 legal entities and persons have a licence to organise rafting trips in the country, and six of them aren’t permanent residents in Montenegro.
The most popular rafting location in Montenegro is the Tara River which boasts the deepest canyon in Europe and the second longest in the world, which stretches for 80 km at an average depth of 1100 km. The area is a part of the Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
