Montenegro announces tender for Velika Plaza

17.03.2009

Tender for development of Montenegro’s longest beach, Velika Plaza, will be invited later this month with a deal expected to be signed this year.

Montenegrin official have spent years discussing the idea to create a new upscale resort in Ulcinj, just north of the Albanian border.

Tourism minister Predrag Nenezic announced last week that tender will start on March 28th and will be open until September. He added that Hungarian company Trigranit and investors from Abu Dhabi have expressed interest in the development.

"Those are two strong potential partners," Nenezic said. "Work could start at the end of 2010."

In related news, Montenegrin government announced in November that Dutch practice Van Der Oever Zaaijer and Partners has won a competition to masterplan the Velika Plaza project. Representative of the practice, Paul van Wijk, said that their project respects the principles of sustainable development and fits the natural environment of Velika plaza.
