About Montenegro
Montenegro features some of the most beautiful coastline on the Adriatic, with bays, coves, sandy beaches, and walled medieval towns backed by craggy mountains. Its 294km coastline slots between Croatia and Albania and features the largest fjord in southern Europe, the bay of Kotor. Land borders are also shared with Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Montenegro is proud of its ecological status which grants it a primary location on any tourist map. It benefits from both the summer season, with its warm temperatures and sandy beaches, and the winter season when the mountain snows provide the opportunity to participate in winter sports. The sea temperature can reach between 21°C - 27°C for up to six months of the year.
The inland is completely unspoilt, with high, extensive mountain ranges intersected by river gorges, pristine lakes and deep valleys. The highest peak, Durmitor, stands at 2522m and is situated in a UNESCO world heritage site. The area encompasses river Tara that for over 100km runs through one of the deepest, most secluded canyons in the world. The country is also fast developing facilities for extreme sports to attract the more active visitors.
Apart from its spectacular scenery and natural features, this tiny country abounds with numerous historical monuments, its towns and cities illustrating the invaluable treasures of a rich history. Other attractions include monasteries, art galleries, theatres and festivals.
Montenegro is also one of south-eastern Europe's newest property hotspots with charming stone houses and modern developments, many of which overlook the dramatic coastline, rolling green hills or pristine freshwater lakes. The political situation is very stable and the pro-European government hope to take Montenegro into the European Union, having already adopted the Euro as the national currency.
